Final Piece Creation

Pebbles and Bam Bam (Flintstones)

First I found the images that I wanted to use on the Internet, and then inked them with a brush. I then scanned them into Photoshop.

I also decided to use a process called Press Print (Poly Print) to create a different texture with the same images. To give texture I decided to pierce holes into a few parts of the drawings. I decided to use green because this is a colour that is stereotypically seen in the Flintstones cartoon.

I decided that I wanted the inked image to be on top of the the poly printed image. I removed the white from the inked image using the magic wand tool, and resized the inked image until I was happy with it.

I then made my pattern using a 120x120cm piece, this would allow me to create a pattern that was just the right size, and I could put a lot of my objects onto it, making it look fuller.

I then selected all my pieces and used the define pattern tool to create my pattern. Then using the pattern stamp tool I layered this pattern onto an A3 canvas.

I then found an image of crumpled paper on Google Images, and imported this as the background for my piece, as this way it looked more like a form of wrapping paper, rather than just having a plain background.

Barbie and Ken

First I found images of Barbie and Ken, and I changed them to artistic cutout on Photoshop. This allowed me to see all of the different highlights and shadows. Having this effect made it easier for me to cut them out.

As you can see of these next 2 images, I cut out different sections of Ken and Barbie and then used ink and a spray tool to create my inked images. I decided to use the spray effect to make this pattern look a lot more urban to the previous one.

I then put these into Photoshop and changed the levels.

Then in Photoshop, I erased the white and filled the colours in pink and orange, to create a contrast.

I then laid them over each other to create the outline of Ken. I did the same for Barbie as you can see below.

I then spray painted Barbie in the same way I did the faces, and filled it in black. I then dotted this around the pattern.

This is a rough copy that I made, and from looking at this I have decided that I need to fill more space.

After printing the image above out, I decided to re-do the whole piece as I wasn't happy with the way it printed and the look it gave. Therefore I decided to ink around Barbie and Ken and change them to more pastel colours.

After this I then decided to create my pattern, and I tried different colours as my background. And also inputting different objects such as hearts and the Barbie logo.

Here is the pattern using the Barbie logo.

I then changed the colour to white, and I preferred this to the pink one.

I then used an online editing software called Pixlr. And I created 4 different images that all had different patterns on them.

I then decided that the image below is what I wanted.

Morticia and Gomez Addams

For this pattern I decided to use a process called Cyanotype. This meant that I had to print my chosen images in black and white and change them to negative. I then put my images in a UV lightbox for 20mins and after this I ran them under water for 5 minutes to make them blue.

These are my scanned cyanotype images. I have altered the levels in Photoshop to make them darker.

I then found various images of the characters from The Addams Family, and put them onto a A3 document and printed them. After this I then inked them and scanned them into Photoshop.

I then took each image and removed the background using the magic wand tool. I then laid these out into the pattern I wanted.

I then created a separate pattern of the cyanotype images. I duplicated them and inverted them to create the orange colour.

I decided to use the cyanotype pattern as a background for my ink pattern. I thought that the white background was a bit boring, so I went back an decided to add colour.

I created a purple and a grey layer, and cut around random parts of the inked imaged to get the grey peeking through the purple.

In a new document I then added the cyanotyped pattern to the inked pattern and altered the opacity levels.
