Final Piece Proposal + Planning

For my final piece I am going to create 3 patterns that will be used for a window display. My patterns are going to made with 'Topshop,' a fashion outlet in mind. I have decided to create my pieces for 'Topshop,' as they have a quirky style that accommodates to many fashion styles. When designing my patterns I will keep in mind Topshop's style and what they represent. I want Topshop to be happy with the patterns I create, so they could use them along with their fashion designs. I have chosen to make 3 different patterns using fictional couples. These fictional couples are; Pebble and Bam Bam from the Flintstones. Morticia and Gomez Addams from The Addams Family, and also Barbie and Ken. I know that these are characters that Topshop can create products for and that they will suit different fashion styles. I plan for my patterns to be used as backdrops in their windows in larger stores, such as their Oxford Street store in London. I would like these patterns to be sold separately on A3 size posters, so people could buy them and stick them up in their room.

Here are my mock ups for the exam and how I created them:

Here is a A3 page of images of Barbie and Ken that I could use for inspiration and ideas.
At first I drew items relating to Barbie and Ken. These items were a handbag, lipstick, hearts, a car and some random triangles. I printed these onto card using a baby pink paint. I then left these to dry and scanned them into Photoshop.

I then started to make these into a 120x120cm pattern using cmd-shift-j to separate the image into 2 sections. I then created the pattern using the define pattern tool.

I then put this onto an A3 poster, and I also changed the colours of a few items so there was a mixture of bright pink and a softer baby pink.

I then found an image of Barbie and Ken, and made it black and white. I then duplicated this image and made it blue. After this I used the multiply effect to have the black and white showing through a little. I then duplicated these even more until I had enough to cover my pattern.

Here is a A3 page of random images of The Flintstones that I could use for inspiration and ideas.

This is the beginning of my Pebbles and Bam Bam mock. I decided to use the same process of printing to make the background pattern. I decided to use a bone and a club to create most of the pattern, with a few random shapes around them. These were printed in two different shades of green. One looking more foresty the other being more of a lime shade. I then put these into Photoshop and started rearranging them into the pattern I wanted.

After I used the define pattern tool, I put my pattern onto an A3 poster. I then used the photo filter to make the pattern look warmer.

For Pebbles and Bam Bam, I printed an image of them off the internet, and used a brush and ink to go round them again. After scanning this in, I used the magic wand tool to remove the white. After this I then coloured in Pebbles and Bam Bam using the fill tool.

I then put the background layer on top and experimented with different masks on them. I used normal, colour dodge, difference and hue.

I then decided that the pattern using Overlay worked the best. And here is my finished mock up.
